MY CLASSROOM
My four years of teaching have provided me with diverse opportunities in the classroom. Teaching two years of seventh grade math, one year of eighth grade math and one year of Algebra 1, I can see how my classroom environment has grown. To add to this, I will be starting to teach multiple sections of Geometry, a section of Pre-Calculus and a section of Advanced Placement Calculus next year.
School Information
Lee M. Thurston High School is the one high school servicing about 1,000 students in the South Redford School District. Having only 11% of our student population proficient in mathematics in 2014, my goal is to ensure that each child receives an individualize education in order to help them achieve success.
Next Generation Classroom
Next Generation Learning centers around what is best for the student. Educators must be innovative and implement practices that allow students to utilize they experience, knowledge and savvy with technology. Next year I will begin implementing this style of learning in my classroom.
- Blended Learning Model: No longer do you hear how successful direct instruction is for ALL students. We must differentiate our teaching to best support our students' success in class. I have implemented a blending learning model that combines face-to-face instruction with technology.
- 360 Degree Math: Through the use of white-board on each wall, students in my classroom have the ability to learn while moving around the room.
- Flexible Seating: Sitting through a six period school day is made easier through flexible seating in my classroom. Research shows increased engagement, motivation and collaboration through the use of flexible seating.
Blended Courses
Because of one of my master's courses, Teaching K12 Students Online, I have confidently started to create blended courses for my Geometry, Pre-Calculus and AP Calculus courses.. By clicking the links below, you will find the work I've started on making these blended courses. Each course's lessons include the following:
- Learning: warm-ups, exploration activities, copy of class notes
- Practicing: activities, practice
- Assessing: discussions, exit tickets
